What is Humanities? o matter what your chosen area of specialization, all students need to receive a broad and solid general education. This is accomplished in the Cégep system through the "General Studies" courses in Humanities, English, French and Physical Education. umanities courses study women and men, their accumulated knowledge and their historical achievements and failures. umanities courses are multi-disciplinary, drawing on different disciplines and counterbalancing the specialization of pre-university and career programs. Many Humanities courses may be used to complete the requirements for Majors Programs at Vanier. umanities courses introduce students to the major questions of life by studying issues of social, moral and aesthetic value. umanities courses help students examine their world judiciously. They broaden students' horizons and encourage their self-awareness by encouraging an appreciation of the variety and complexity of human experience. "Who wants a living? I want a life." - Jack Kerouac umanities courses help students develop basic critical abilities and academic skills. They help students to organize their thoughts and ideas, and to communicate them clearly and effectively. Students learn to reason and to analyze, to question and to argue, and to respond to the world imaginatively and creatively. umanities courses are valued by leaders of high-tech industry, who argue that "they can't build the digital economy with technology graduates alone." They need people, as they announced in a recent Gazette article, "who know how to communicate, to sell, to relate, to work as part of a team." Such well-rounded graduates are valued for their creativity and their broader skills. umanities courses seek to help students recognize and cultivate human values and a moral sensibility. By arousing intellectual curiosity and developing critical values, Humanities courses help prepare students to face their future lives and careers through well-reasoned decisions and responsible actions.
The History or Story Behind My Site
Depending on the topic of my site, I could include historical information about my subject. For example, if my site is about my business, I could discuss how my business got started. If my site is about a sports team, music group, movie star, or my family, I could chronologically list or summarize major events important to my topic.
